For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4 (NIV)
Christians have the habit of making God’s Word religious. We relegate it to a bunch of rules and regulations, do’s and don’ts. The problem is that when we limit it in this way, we strip it of its awesome power to transform our lives.
God’s Word is powerful. It contains truths that have the potential to change the course of your life. Faith in God’s Word is what brings God’s promises into your life. This faith gives you victory over emotional ups and downs, relationship troubles, financial problems, over sickness, disease and everything else that comes your way.
Faith in his Word can cause you to overcome trouble in every one of the three realms: the spiritual, mental and physical.
The trouble is, we need to get back to the basics when it comes to God’s Word. You see, the word “faith” isn’t a religious word that is without practical meaning. Faith is a very practical word. It’s an action word. To simplify it, faith just means believing.
In other words, today’s verse is saying that if you believe, you will overcome the world! And it’s not just talking about overcoming crises. Faith isn’t something you just pull out of your back pocket when you have an emergency. It’s a way of life. Even if your life is going pretty well, you need to exercise faith to reach the next level!
Where do you want to go in life? What do you want to overcome? What do you want to accomplish? You need to exercise faith—which is just believing what God says—to get there.
