Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favour with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people— this is my request.
Esther 7:3 (NIV)
Did you know that the word “God” is not mentioned in the Book of Esther even once? But was God involved in Esther’s story? Of course He was!
God was involved in Esther’s life and He used her to save His people. But when you read the story, nothing particularly spectacular happened. Esther was chosen to be one of many beautiful young girls to meet the king. She received months of beauty treatments and training before finally meeting him. The king fell in love with her and made her his queen.
Later, Esther found out from her cousin that an evil man was plotting to use the king to destroy all of her people. She courageously presented herself before the king, risking death, and eventually presented her case. She found favour in his eyes, and her people were saved. We see no jaw-dropping evidence of God’s hand in any of Esther’s story. He just used a beautiful young girl to turn everything around.
God definitely does spectacular things; don’t get me wrong. But we need to realize that the supernatural also takes place in everyday life. You need to recognize the supernatural hand of God in your life. He has great plans for you! Realize that His leading often comes about very naturally—through “chance” meetings, the advice of friends and “happening” upon the right information at the right time.
Stay open to seeing God at work in your everyday life, and be sure to give Him all the glory.
