Intercessory Prayer

Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe…They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT)

We all want to pray with confidence and get results. This is why we’ve been on a series over the past few days discussing the different types of prayer.

We’ve discussed seven types so far. Today we’ll cover the eighth and final type: intercessory prayer. Very simply, intercessory prayer is what happens when you pray for others, intervening on their behalf.

Unfortunately, a lot of confusion surrounds intercessory prayer. Some think you have to beg God before He’ll get involved in someone’s life, but it’s not true. He doesn’t need convincing. In fact, He wants to reach them more than you could ever know! You just need to pray and believe for Him to get involved.

For example, let’s say one of your friends isn’t open to hearing about Jesus. According to today’s verse, your friend’s eyes have been blinded. They can’t see the love and hope that could be theirs through a relationship with Jesus. In your prayer time, you can intervene by praying, “In the name of Jesus, I command my friend’s eyes to be opened so they can see what their life could be like with Jesus!”

As another example, let’s pretend you know someone who has been making poor moral decisions. You could pray Ephesians 1:17–20 over them. In fact, this is a great prayer to pray for anyone in your life. In your own words, say something like, “Father, give my friend wisdom and insight. Help them grow to know you more!”

Today, think of someone who doesn’t realize they need God, and release His power into their life through prayer.
