Jesus looked hard at them and said, “No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.”
Matthew 19:26 (MSG)
Desire is a powerful force. It moves you toward whatever you crave, so it can either move you toward faith or it can move you toward temptation. To move toward faith, you need to cultivate a desire for the right things. But how?
Well, did you know that when you be- gin to expect something, that expectation makes your desire stronger? Think about it. Let’s say you work on a factory floor and a supervisory position becomes open. Every other time this position became available, you ignored it. You thought, I’m not even going to try. I’ll never get it. Besides, I don’t even want that job.
But this time you had several people tell you that you should apply for it. In fact, you found out that your boss has been considering you for the position. All of a sudden you begin to think, You know, I could do that supervisory job. In fact, I’d be great at it!
Pretty soon your confidence rises up and you begin to expect the job. As a result, your desire for that job increases. This is why faith and desire go hand in hand.
If you desire something and you’re praying about it, you need to expect that you’re going to receive it. You need to go from desire: “I want to be healed,” to faith: “God loves me and He wants me to be healthy and whole. Healing is mine!”
As your faith begins to rise, your desire increases, and it becomes an awesome cycle of faith and desire that leads to abundance and blessings.
