This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.
Joshua 1:8 (AMP)
You need to be able to imagine where you’re going if you want to get there.
Whenever we want something different to happen in an area of our lives, we need to develop a new picture for that area. For example, let’s say that you want to decrease your debt and better your financial situation. If all you can imagine for your future is unpaid bills piling up and a mountain of debt, nothing is going to change. You need to go to God’s Word to see what you’ve been promised and then use that to develop a new picture of your future.
Today’s verse teaches us this principle, and I want you to notice what it doesn’t say. It doesn’t say that you just need to pray for God to give you success. We all know that prayer is important, but this verse says that you make your way prosperous—and you begin this process by meditating on God’s Word.
A promise in the Bible is actually of no use to you until you meditate on it to change the picture you hold inside.
Try it today. What are you struggling with? Find promises in God’s Word to meditate on. Visualize what your life will be like as you walk in that promise, and thank God for it. Holy Spirit will help that picture to become clearer every time you meditate on it until it eventually comes to pass.
