How’s Your Emotional Side?

…that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17–19 (NKJV)

Many people spend the time and effort to look good physically, but there is an emotional side to us that we need to pay attention to. I’m not talking about your public mask—the face you put on when everyone is looking.

Emotional attractiveness comes from deep within.

Those who become emotionally unattractive—irritable, grumpy and unhappy all the time—wonder how it happened. They didn’t start out this way in life, but over time they found themselves heading in this direction.

One possible explanation is as follows. When you work your whole life trying to arrive at something you can freely have, it makes you miserable. People do all kinds of crazy things for love. They try to earn it…but God gives it freely. When you give your life to Jesus, you begin an amazing relationship with God. His undying love and complete commitment is yours. As you work at becoming a better you, He is like a proud parent who loves you and celebrates the steps you’ve made.

This unconditional love is not earned. I don’t love my kids because their rooms are clean. It’s a free gift that I express all the time. Emotionally attractive people don’t make people earn their love. They also don’t try to earn God’s love because it is a free gift.

If you want to be more emotionally attractive, learn to accept the love God freely gives…and learn to love like He loves.
