By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 2 Peter 1:3 (NLT)
Today’s verse completely changed how I look at Jesus and His Word.
Rather than praying Old Testament prayers of begging and pleading, this verse says that we’ve already been given all we need to live a godly life.
Now the word “life” used in today’s verse is the word “zoe” in the original Greek. It isn’t referring to your natural life; it means the divine, eternal life that God can give. God is saying He’s already provided us with everything we need to live a life that expresses His qualities through our lives: rich in joy and love, wisdom, peace, fully utilizing all the incredible gifts within us.
While He is for us living abundant lives on earth, this verse isn’t referring to that blessing. Today’s verse is saying that with Christ in our hearts, we have the ability to grow and become more like Him throughout our lives. In doing so, we impact others for the Kingdom.
Now, maybe you’re thinking, “I’ve got certain desires I’m not proud of but I can’t get them under control.” Listen, when you give your life to Jesus Christ, 2 Peter 1:4 says everything you need to get rid of unhealthy cravings has been given to you through His promises. If sin pulls at you, the truth is you can resist it through the power of God’s promises and His grace!
Through Christ, we have direct access to be able to enjoy, experience and develop His nature in us. What a revelation!
