When you decide to trust in Christ, Holy Spirit fills the empty void in your heart like water fills a well. Anytime you need it, you can draw from His bottomless power. However, when you are baptized in Holy Spirit, His power flows out of you with the power of rushing rivers.
What kind of power does He provide? The Greek word for power is “dunamis,” which Thayer’s Greek Lexicon defines as strength, power and ability. It also expands the definition as follows:
- Inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth. Holy Spirit power not only resides in you because of the nature you have in Christ, but you can choose to release it.
- Power for performing miracles. God can perform healing and other miracles through this power you are able to release.
- Moral power and excellence of soul. His power is not only for miracles. It also overcomes temptation and bad habits.
- The power and influence which belong to riches and wealth. He gives you the power to make wealth so you can do His work.
- Power and resources arising from numbers. He empowers you to handle large groups and use combined resources well.
- Power consisting in or resting upon armies, forces, hosts. He gives you the power to stand united.
Holy Spirit gives this power to every person who believes. Do you believe it?
