Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Galatians 5:25
Holy Spirit’s methods for guiding us are not strange or mysterious. He communicates with us directly, and it’s vital that we realize this. However, this doesn’t mean we’re alone in our walk with God. We need people around us to encourage us and help to confirm when we’re hearing from God.
This is why it’s vital to connect with others who know God, care about us and are willing to speak into our lives. We can also learn a lot from great leaders, pastors, counsellors and therapists. However, we need to be careful. We have to be discerning when other people share what they believe they’ve heard from God.
When someone shares something with you that they believe God
told them, take it with a grain of salt and test it out, as 1 Thessalonians
5:19-21 instructs. Hold on only to what’s good.
Sometimes what someone has to say might be perfect for what you are facing at the time, giving you the boost of confidence you need to go forward. Other times, people can be way off. If what they have to say doesn’t line up with God’s Word or it’s in direct contradiction
to previous direction you’ve received from Holy Spirit, just ignore it and move on.
Look first to Holy Spirit for the guidance he wants to give. You’ll live out the great life he has planned for you, and he will guide you consistently, reliably, clearly and without fail, every day.
