Happiness Traps: Forcing It

Leon FontaineDevoted

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. John 15:10–11 (NKJV)

Have you ever met someone who puts on a façade of happiness?

You’ve probably heard the saying, “Fake it until you make it.” But faking happiness isn’t the key to developing a deep-seated sense of joy. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t put on a smile and try to be happy. But why live a life of fake happiness when you can find real tools in God’s Word allowing you to live a life that’s full of joy!

You see, when you fake happiness it means there’s something off balance in your thought-life. Instead of just ‘putting on happiness’ you can change from the inside out.

One way to create internal change is through your focus. What you focus on determines how you perceive life. According to Matthew 6:22–23 (KJV), if your eye is singly focused on something that is good, your whole life will be filled with light. But if you focus on negative things, your whole life will be filled with unhappiness—even if you are a believer.

Joy is something you can develop. He sent Jesus so we could have lives filled with laughter, joy, purpose and satisfaction. As our verse says today, you can live this joy-filled life. Over the next few days I’ll show you how, so keep reading!
