Happiness Is Over-Rated

“But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy…” Galatians 5:22 (AMPC)

Kids seem to live in a magical world where it’s easy to have joy over the simplest things. As adults, there are legitimate cares and things we need to attend to but they do not have to steal our joy. We can be responsible, diligent and disciplined and full of joy at the same time when we understand one simple key.

Joy is not found in the absence of problems.

Many get caught up thinking that they’ll finally be happy when a certain problem is solved. When they get the right job, the right home or the right spouse they’ll finally be happy. In reality, as soon as one problem is solved, another one takes its place. That’s life, but it doesn’t have to prevent you from experiencing joy.

Happiness comes from happenings. But joy comes from God. Joy doesn’t come from people, places or things. It also doesn’t come from money. Happiness comes from things that happen in life but joy is much deeper. It’s an inner contentment that goes beyond circumstances.

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit. In the Amplified version, Galatians 5:22 says that the fruit of the Holy Spirit is a result of having “His presence within.” Joy is a direct result of spending time in God’s presence. Do you want more joy in your life? Spend time with God every day.
