Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Galatians 6:7 (KJV)
Do you often have persistent feelings you can’t seem to shake? Whether you find you’re happy all the time or you can’t stop thinking negatively, you can often trace persistent emotions back to a set of beliefs you hold.
Some say these emotions are just caused by brain chemical imbalances. That may well be true at times, and it’s something to discuss with your doctor if you’re struggling. However, these imbalances are not always the root cause of persistent feelings. Sometimes we have more control over how we feel than we think!
In many cases, the only reason we feel the way we do is because of the beliefs that have been planted in our heart over the years. The good news is we can change our beliefs! We can focus on God’s Word and plant new seeds in the soil of our hearts—ones that will yield a harvest of peace, joy and possibility-thinking.
Today’s verse sums up this principle: whatever you sow, you will reap. Many feel condemned when they read this. They think it’s saying,
“Look at your messed-up life. It’s your fault! In reality, that’s a really negative, judgmental way to look at it. You
could just as easily interpret it this way: “Hey, guess what? You reap what you sow! Do you know what that means? It means you can plant great beliefs and…get this…then you’re guaranteed to reap great results! Isn’t that fantastic?”
You have the power to shape your future, and all it takes is a little time and study in God’s Word.
