For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Titus 2:11–12 (NIV)
My father’s pastor was an unbelievable guy. Whenever I did devotions with him, I noticed something that inspired me. I could see the passion that burned in his eyes for the presence and Word of God.
Do you feel that kind of passion and desire for God’s Word?
If not, don’t worry. Very few people feel this way at first, especially when they’re new to doing devotions. The good news is this passion is something that builds over time. The more time you spend in His presence, the more you begin to love it. You start by choosing to do what His Word says is right, and then you actually start wanting to do it. God’s Spirit in you helps you to form the desire to do what gives Him pleasure.
When you live this way—God’s way—so much joy, laughter and peace come into your life! Every
year becomes a good year with God, regardless of what’s happening!
If I could give you one key to living with passion, excitement and enthusiasm in your life, it would be this one simple thing: Decide to follow what God’s Word says.
There’s so much joy to be found in serving God. There’s a peace that surpasses all understanding and a greater passion than you’ve ever known. Decide you won’t just do what’s easiest or only what’s good for you. Do what’s good for the Kingdom and seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. As a result, so many good things will be added to you!
