God’s Word is Key

Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness.
Colossians 3:16 (AMPC)

God’s Word is key when it comes to developing your love for God, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. A er all, you can begin to fall in love with someone just by reading letters they’ve written to you.

One couple I know of began planning their wedding after only meeting once. They had been writing each other for months and had fallen in love. It’s clear that written words can be powerful, but God’s Word is even more so. According to Hebrews 4:12, God’s Word is “alive and active” (NIV). It powerfully affects the hearts of believers.

Do you have to read the Bible to be a Christian? No. Do you have to go to church? No. But think of it this way. You don’t have to spend time with your spouse to be married either, but if you don’t, you won’t develop your love for each other.

You won’t have much of a love walk in your marriage if you never build on that love. In the same way, you need to get to know God by spending time with Him and by reading the letters He has written to you to develop your relationship with Him.

The Bible is a love letter from God to us, and it tells us all about who Jesus is and what He’s done for us. When you read it and really think about what you’re reading, it affects you on the deepest levels. You discover how much God truly loves you, and you begin to develop your love for Him…and the love walk you develop is life changing.
