For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him. Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
Each of us moves around in different spheres of influence throughout our lives. As believers, wherever we go, God flows through us to impact others.
I’ll never forget meeting one particular guy who gave his life to Jesus while battling heavy addictions. The following weekend he was telling everyone at a party about it. Now some might think, “Maybe he needs to get his life together first before he starts telling others,” but guess what? The next Sunday, he brought a bunch of people with him to church, many of whom accepted Christ too! You see, he held influence in the circle that he was involved in at the time, and God’s presence flowed through him to minister to others, changing those lives for eternity.
Now this doesn’t mean we should become part of the world’s culture in order to hold influence. Our role is to understand it, flow in it and draw people out into the Kingdom culture. The Kingdom culture is so much more attractive!
As believers, when we allow hope and God’s power in us to flow outward to others, we fulfill our instructions to be salt and light to the world (Matthew 5:13–16).
Salt sitting in a shaker is pointless but sprinkle it on steak or some eggs and suddenly the taste comes alive! If it’s dark and you arrive with a flashlight, suddenly everyone can see! We are to add life everywhere we go.
We may not fully realize the influence we have on those around us, but the Lord knows…and He is actively at work, flowing through us to help others. Don’t be afraid to shine!
