We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
It seems to be human nature to compare our worst with others’ best. We’re focused on our flaws while we notice everyone else’s gifts and talents.
Meanwhile, God is trying to convince you through his Word that you are unique for a purpose, and you are incredibly valuable to him.
True confidence about yourself and your identity comes from getting God’s Word in your heart.
You need to make sure that you protect your mind when it comes to negative thoughts against yourself. The Bible doesn’t say to pray about your thoughts. It says to take them captive and to pull down theories that don’t line up with God’s Word. And if you think you may need medical help to stabilize your moods, don’t feel condemned about it. Seek out help just as you would for any other medical problem.
Much of how we feel is the result of habitual thinking. Keep meditating on what God’s Word says about you and what you think of yourself will begin to change. It’s a process, but over time you’ll become more confident—not in a prideful, arrogant way, but you’ll know who you are, just as Jesus did.
God doesn’t want you to think you’re a nobody who could never do anything great. He wants you to rise up and take the incredible paths he’s prepared for you. The truth is you were created for such a time as this, and with him you can do great things!
