…for I am the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15:26 (NLT)
Over the past two days we have covered two very important things to consider as you speak about your life. It’s very important to speak positively. God’s promises are all positive, so if you believe Him at His Word, your words should be positive too!
It’s also vital that you make your words present tense. Many people talk about the healing or peace of mind they will have ‘one day,’ but God’s promises are for right here, right now. You may not be walking them out yet, but they are yours.
There is one more thing I want to mention when it comes to speaking God’s Word over your life:
Make it personal.
When you talk about God’s promises, make it personal. Don’t say, “God heals us.” God is healing YOU! It’s also important that you don’t make your success contingent on someone else’s behaviour. Your hope depends on what Jesus has done, not your spouse, your kids, your boss or anyone else.
Stop saying things like, “If only my spouse would treat me better, then I could be happy.” Your joy doesn’t depend on your spouse! When you think about it, almost all of the promises in God’s Word are personal. Why? Because you can’t control other people.
If you want a better marriage, you can’t control what kind of effort your spouse puts in, but you can control what you do. Pray for them and believe for a happy marriage…but start with you.
Claim God’s promises in a present-tense, positive and personal way. As you do this daily, Holy Spirit will help you build a new picture for your life so you can walk into every promise God has for you.
