Fools Rush In

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 22:3 (NLT)

We are bombarded with a large amount of information that we need to filter and process each day. When it comes to making great decisions, a little meditation is vital. We can’t let ourselves become so rushed that we take no time to think about whether or not what we are doing is actually getting us anywhere. Sometimes it is wise to delay a decision.

Delaying and procrastinating are very different. Delaying isn’t done out of carelessness or laziness; the decision is only put off long enough to be able to gather enough information, analyze the situation and use wisdom.

We need to pause and consider the cost of each decision. Being great at coming up with ideas isn’t enough; we need to count the cost if we want to be successful long-term. When we are impulsive with our decision-making, we set ourselves up for failure.

I’ve often found that people and situations will scream at you to make a quick decision. If your vehicle is stuck on the tracks and a train is approaching, you had better decide quickly. However, most of the time the decision isn’t life or death. You can delay.

Do your research. Consult experts. Talk to those who have walked through the situation you face. Pray and create quiet time where you can meditate on God’s Word. Listen to Holy Spirit. The fog will clear out of your mind as He gives you a sense of peace about the right decision. Then take action!
