Faithful In Little

The Israelite army fled, but Shammah held his ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory. 2 Samuel 23:11-12 (NLT)

David’s Mighty Men were a group of courageous warriors who followed him long before he became king. Of this group, three were famous for their exploits under David’s leadership. Over the past two days we have discussed the first two. Today we will discuss the third, Shammah, who fought an army over a field of lentils. He would not back down or compromise, even in something as small and insignificant as a field of lentils.

Everything great starts with something small.

Picture a giant concrete wheel on a stationary axle. To get it moving, you push on it slowly and repetitively until the heavy wheel turns faster, gaining momentum. Only small movements were possible at the beginning, but once the wheel has gained momentum, it is almost impossible to stop.

Momentum is built with small actions. Do not wait for your big break while great opportunities pass you by in the little things.

For example, if you treat your kids as though they already are what you hope they will become, you empower them to become it. If you treat your wife like a precious gift, you find that your small actions

give you great momentum. Are you careful to look after the little things in your relationships, knowing that it is the smallest displays of love and respect that matter most?
