End-Time Prophesies: What’s In Store?

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (ESV)

The church world seems fascinated with trying to decipher the end-time prophecies in the book of Revelation. Although many of the prophecies in Revelation were fulfilled by 70 A.D, this pre occupation seems to spread nothing but fear amongst believers. Should this be our focus?

Think about this: Jesus died on the cross and defeated sin, death and Satan (Hebrews 2:14–18, Colossians 1:13–14, 2:14–15, 1 John 3:8). Jesus is not coming back to mercifully rescue a whipped, whimpering remnant of believers. He’s coming back for a glorious, passionate, explosive church that’s on fire for Him!

Now, that doesn’t mean we won’t go through trials in life. In fact, today’s verse states it plainly: we will have tribulation. However, Jesus’s next words remind us that He’s already overcome it all for us.

In other words, regardless of where we are in history or what we face in life, we serve the Victor who is more powerful than anything or anyone else in the world (1 John 4:4)! His Spirit is actively at work through us, helping us to make a difference for eternity.

Nations and governments may make bad decisions that affect us. But at the end of the day, regardless of which governments are ruling or what laws get changed or passed, the church of Jesus Christ and the gospel message will continue to infiltrate nations and reach the world.

Rather than stew about end time prophecies, stay focused on what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Follow His commands to reach the world and disciple nations instead! (Matthew 28:19–20.)
