Ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 (AMPC)
If you stop spending time with Holy Spirit, you will begin to rely on just your own strength, and this is a miserable place to be. Without time in His presence, you won’t have any peace, clarity or focus for what God has called you to do.
When you stop spending time with Holy Spirit, you lose that loving feeling for Him and for what He loves. More accurately, you lose sight of it. It’s a temporary symptom that results from not enough time with Him. You might begin to harbour resentment. You’ll pray, Lord, use me, and then complain, I feel used. And often this is just because you’ve stopped relying on Him for the power and energy you need to do what you need to do.
You need His strength to do what He’s calling you to do and to love the unlovable. People who spend time with Holy Spirit regularly will labour extensively for those they don’t even know, even to the point of laying down their lives for them. You just can’t drum up that kind of love. Only through God can you develop the ability to love unconditionally.
If you’ve been feeling unappreciated or used, it might be because you aren’t relying on Holy Spirit’s power, love, joy, acceptance and peace. Of course, if you are allowing people to walk all over your boundaries and you’re wearing yourself thin because you’re overly concerned with pleasing others, that’s a different story. Deal with that, but at the same time, don’t walk away from the help Holy Spirit has for you for your everyday life. Develop the habits you need to be conscious of Holy Spirit every day.
