Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (NLT)
Regardless of the storms that blow in your life, it’s essential to hang onto God’s peace.
Jesus operated this way. In Mark 4:35-41, He was sleeping peacefully in the back of the boat when a bad storm suddenly blew in. As the waves began to swamp the boat, His disciples woke him, terrified. How did Jesus respond? Did He freak out or panic? Did He quickly breathe into a paper bag to get a grip? No. He said, “Be still!” and the storm died down to nothing.
It reminds me of the paramedic training I received years ago. When attending horrific accident scenes, our instructors trained us to maintain control and stay calm so we could work efficiently and maximize survivors. That’s how we need to function as believers. When a storm blows, and there’s every reason to panic, hang onto God’s peace and let that rule your heart.
Today’s verse says God’s peace guards our hearts and minds. So, when a situation tries to get me stressed out, I just make sure my guard is up. How do I do that? I follow Philippians 4:4 and keep rejoicing in Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) explains how to enjoy God’s peace: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
God’s incredible peace belongs to you—don’t let it go!
