Disgusted or Astonished?

What are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Psalm 8:4 (NLT)

How we see ourselves affects our self-worth.

Satan knows this. That’s why he continually works at convincing us that we’re less than others. The more he can hook us into thinking that we’re somehow lacking in some way, the easier it will be for us to latch onto something outside of God to try to find that value.

Satan used this same tactic with Eve in the Garden of Eden. First, he caused her to question whether she lacked something in her life. Then he worked to convince her that the forbidden fruit—something outside of God—would fill that void. The result? Total disaster!

Maybe you’ve heard similar mistruths about our self-worth taught by legalistic religions. By misinterpreting Scriptures like today’s verse, various denominations teach that we’re dirty, rotten sinners and should be amazed that God even considers us.

But is that true? Psalm 8:5 (NLT) explains that God created us “only a little lower” than Himself and crowned us with glory and honour. Now, some of the older Bible translations of Psalm 8:5 incorrectly read that God made people only a little lower than the angels, because the lavish value God placed on humanity stunned translators.

The truth is, God created you with incredible worth. Maybe you’re struggling to believe your value because you’ve fallen short in several areas. If so, meditate on Psalm 8:5 and see yourself through God’s eyes.

The more you recognize how much God cherishes you, the less chance you’ll fall for the enemy’s lies about your self-worth. God holds you in high regard!
