God’s kingdom is like seed thrown on a field by a man who then goes to bed and forgets about it. The seed sprouts and grows—he has no idea how it happens… When the grain is fully formed, he reaps—harvest time! Mark 4:26–29 (MSG)
Most people think the way to make changes in their lives is to pray for them. For example, they think if you want to have closer relationships, better health or more financial freedom, you should simply ask God. Although prayer is essential, this belief is actually not entirely accurate. Jesus taught that the way to increase is to employ the principle of seed time and harvest.
If you want your life to produce great things, you need to understand how God’s Word works. It’s like growing a garden. You need to follow certain principles to get things to grow. For example, you can’t plant pumpkin seeds and expect corn. Similarly, if you want to harvest a promise you find in God’s Word, you need to plant it.
Jesus taught us that His Word is our seed. When we meditate on His promises to get in agreement with what they are saying and we verbally claim them for our lives, they alter our future. As they change what we believe in our hearts, something incredible takes place. We begin to harvest what we have planted.
A gardener can predict her future harvest by what she has planted in her garden. Similarly, you can predict what you will have in your future by the promises of God you have planted in your heart.
Don’t wait for an emergency in your relationships, finances or health. Create your future by planting ahead of time.
