Connecting The Dots

I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. 1 Corinthians 3:6 (NLT)

Do you remember doing dot-to-dots as a kid? As the numbered dots were connected, the picture became clear. In a similar way, God uses people to help connect the dots to Him.

For example, let’s say you are served by a tired waitress. Even though her service is lacking, you treat her with kindness and respect, and she notices. She also hears you mention that you’re heading to an event at church later. That’s one dot, but she needs a few more to see the full picture.

A few days later, another group comes in laughing and talking about church, and she notices they seem different. Another dot is connected. Then one day she’s scrolling through the channels and she happens to come across Miracle Channel. She’s uplifted and encouraged, and a few more dots are placed. She’s beginning to see the picture, and not long after, she gives her life to Christ.

People often need to have several dots placed before they connect them to see that Jesus is the answer. Sometimes our role can seem so insignificant, but one little dot can make all the difference!

You might think it’s nothing to stop and encourage a mom whose child is throwing a temper tantrum in the store. You may not have recognized that she was the new person at your church on Sunday, but God knows who she is, and He’s a master at placing dots in all the right places.

When we practice love and kindness in action, looking for opportunities to help people, we may be just the “dot” God needs to help draw them to Him.
