What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me. Job 3:25 (NIV)
What you believe is connecting the dots to your future, positive or negative.
I’m not saying everything that happens to you happens because of your beliefs. But the Bible very clearly teaches us this process for a reason—because it’s powerful.
When we read the story of Job in the Bible, many people think that God was being unfair to Job, but I believe this story demonstrates how powerful our beliefs truly are. In Job 3:25, Job makes a revealing statement. What he feared came upon him. Is it possible that he brought what he feared into reality through his beliefs?
If so, it’s no wonder God doesn’t want us to fear! When you allow fear to come into your thought life, it does the same thing the Word does. You begin to picture it coming true. This turns that fear into a heart belief, to the point where you believe that what you fear is actually going to happen. It’s like having faith in reverse. You’re actually bringing what you fear into your life because you believe it.
For example, let’s say you have a fear of being short of money. Because you believe it, your circumstances seem to lend credibility to the belief. You never seem to have enough money, so you think that what you believe represents the truth. Meanwhile, other people seem to do so well. Everywhere they go, the money just comes in…because they believe it’s possible.
The reality is that your beliefs have a huge effect on how you experience life. You can choose to focus on God’s promises and build faith instead of fear. And faith will form your future in a positive way.
