INCREASE IN FAVOUR WITH GOD

Leon FontaineDevoted

But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). 2 Peter 3:18 (AMP) Over the last few days we’ve been discussing God’s favour on your life as a believer. So…if you already have God’s favour on your life and there’s nothing you can do to earn it, why does our verse today say that you need to grow in favour? What this verse is really saying is that you can grow in your experience of God’s favour. Growing in favour doesn’t mean you get more power, ability or provision from God. God has already given every member of His family all of the favour He could ever give. But you can increase your experience …

CALLED TO BARELY GET BY?

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield. Psalm 5:12 (NKJV) Do you have trouble believing that God’s incredible favour is on your life? Some old hymns are great, but others leave the wrong impression. For example, I remember singing one that went like this: “I’m satisfied with just a cottage below, a little silver and a little gold, but in that city where the ransomed will shine, I want a gold one that’s silver-lined.” Another went something like this: “Showers of blessing, showers of blessing we need. Mercy drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead.” The problem with songs like this is they imply that we’re to be satisfied with living …

FAVOUR OVERCOMES EVERY PROBLEM

But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Genesis 39:21(NKJV) Joseph is a great biblical example of a person who experienced God’s favour, and from his example it’s clear to see that having God’s favour doesn’t exempt you from all struggles and problems. In the beginning, Joseph’s life looked like the picture-perfect example of favour. Then one day his jealous brothers sold him to slave-traders. It would seem that God’s favour had left Joseph, but Joseph ended up working for Potiphar, one of the Pharaoh’s top leaders. Joseph worked hard, and God’s favour caused him to rise to the top. Eventually Joseph gained so high a position that he was …

YOU DON’T EARN GOD’S FAVOUR

For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. Ephesians 2:8 (AMP) Do you ever doubt God’s desire to bless you when you think about all the mistakes you’ve made? The truth is that you don’t need to qualify yourself for God’s blessings. For believers, God’s favour and grace are free. God gives you access to His blessings and He gives you favours you don’t have to earn as a believer. God’s miracles and blessings are not just for those who deserve them! They’re for every believer! It’s the same with salvation. When you gave your life to Christ, you were saved by grace through faith. Salvation is not something you …

FAVOUR RESTS ON YOU

Leon FontaineDevoted

Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. Luke 2:14 (NIV) God’s favour rests on you. As a believer, you have access to His incredible power, ability, stamina, wisdom and provision. It’s not that you have just a little advantage over the rest of the world. We’re talking about favour that makes people shake their head and ask, “How on earth did you get to where you are today?” If you grew up in legalistic religion, you might have trouble with the idea of favour. You may have learned that you need to earn God’s love and acceptance, so the idea that God has freely given you everything you need is foreign. Here’s the problem …
