By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 2 Peter 1:3 (NLT) Since yesterday was Mother’s Day, we’re starting a week-long series about seven powerful prayers of a mother. It may surprise you, but these prayers aren’t primarily about your kids. They’re about you. On a plane, if the cabin loses air pressure, you’re instructed to put on your oxygen mask first—even if you have a child sitting next to you. Why is that? Because you’re of no use to anyone if you pass out or die from lack of oxygen. But if …
A MOTHER’S PRAYERS
Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 (AMP) The most common question I get from mothers is, “How should I pray for my family?” Today is Mother’s Day, and I want to take this week to show moms how to pray God’s Word. This teaching applies to everyone, of course, but I’m going to focus especially on moms. Often, they have a special sense of what’s going on in their home—which family member is struggling, or which child had a hard day. A mom’s radar is always on. Many of the moms I talk to have concerns about their …
HE SAID IT—I SHOULD SAY IT!
For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5–6 (NKJV) Speaking God’s Word is powerful. In fact, Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV) encourages us to “hold fast our confession” and “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This Scripture is often misunderstood. So, let’s break it down. First of all, what is the throne of grace? It’s speaking about what Jesus won for us on the cross. He received the punishment we deserved, cleared our record and qualified us for every blessing. So, when we pray the Word …
THE MOST POWERFUL THING IN THE WORLD
And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! James 3:10 (NLT) The spoken word is the most powerful thing in the world. It’s how God created the universe. It’s the key that unlocks the process of becoming strong in your faith. And it’s the way you release God’s power into your world. All throughout the Bible, you’ll find verses about confessing the Word. Nowadays, confession is usually associated with something negative like confessing your sins or pleading guilty in a court of law. But when the Bible says to confess, it means to declare the Word, speak to mountains and prophesy your future. Both the spirit world and the physical world have to obey the …
PLAY IT OUT
Where there is no vision, the people perish. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) As a believer, your relationship with God is solid. But that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want without earthly consequences. These consequences don’t come from God; they aren’t some sort of punishment. It’s just that every decision you make has a corresponding result. What today’s verse says is true. Often, we get ourselves into trouble because we haven’t taken the time to play out the vision of where we’re heading. If you want to know what you’ll be doing in 10 years, look at what you’re doing today and play out where your habits and behaviour will take you. Let’s say you’re cheating on your taxes. Play that movie out. What happens …
