Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NLT) With all of the responsibilities on my plate, people often ask me how I handle so much “stuff” without becoming weary or overwhelmed by problems. Galatians 6:9 (AMPC) provides guidance for all of us. Paul tells us not to lose heart and grow weary in doing good for in due time, we’ll reap blessings “if we don’t loosen and relax our courage.” You see, emotional exhaustion creeps in when we begin to let go of our courage. To “lose heart” describes times when situations are ongoing, difficult and still unrewarded. What can help us to hang onto our courage and …
TAKE THE VITAMINS OUT OF THE JAR
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NLT) What is one thing the Bible repeatedly reminds believers to do? It is to speak God’s Word. And why is that so important? Because it benefits you! When weariness or emotional exhaustion tries to weigh on you like a wet blanket, speaking what God says pushes it off. So don’t read the Word to yourself; read it aloud. Then take a minute or two and begin to speak over your day, your family, your business and your future. This is how you take God’s promises and give them a voice. …
HOW TO MOVE PAST EXHAUSTION TO VICTORY
“Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted and defied the armies of the living God.” 1 Samuel 17:36 (AMP) When was the last time you found yourself struggling emotionally or mentally? God’s Word offers several ways to help us through. One major antidote is to remember the faithfulness of God. David used this skill when he faced Goliath. David must have felt a moment of dread leading up to taking on the giant. But he started recalling and declaring his successes over previous enemies. Then he ran out onto the battlefield and took out Goliath. Replaying our former victories does something powerful to us on the inside. Any …
COMBAT EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. Hebrews 12:3 (ESV) Many people find themselves mentally or emotionally burned out and think they have no choice but to suffer through it. But that’s not the case. The Bible gives us several ways to combat burnout effectively. Whenever I sense weariness pushing against me, I press deeper into my relationship with God. I get into His Word and let Holy Spirit revive me internally with His incredible peace and joy. Another practical key to switching off exhaustion is to open your eyes to other people who are going through worse. Whenever I start feeling myself draining mentally or emotionally, I remember I have so much …
WATCH YOUR WORDS!
Words can bring death or life! Talk too much, and you will eat everything you say. Proverbs 18:21 (CEV) We’ve all heard it said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” There’s a lot of wisdom in that little saying! In fact, guarding your words is never more crucial than when you sense weariness pushing against you. I remember reading an article by a neurologist who said that the brain area that looks after speech overrides the rest of the brain. That makes sense because our ears and hearts obviously listen to and believe the words we speak. That’s why saying things like, “I’ve had it. I just can’t do it anymore,” or, “I’m so sick and tired of …
