WHAT EVERY SEED NEEDS

Leon FontaineDevoted

For through the eternal and living Word of God you have been born again. And this “seed” that he planted within you can never be destroyed but will live and grow inside of you forever.  1 Peter 1:23 (TPT)  Archaeologists once found seeds buried for thousands of years in King Tut’s tomb. You would have expected those seeds would be hard, lifeless pebbles. Yet amazingly, when planted in soil, they grew!   That reminds me of how God’s Word works in our lives. In John 6:63, Jesus said the words He spoke were more than just verbal sounds—they were spirit and life. And just like the seeds in King Tut’s tomb needed to be planted in soil before they could grow, God’s Word needs to get into …

THE KEY TO EXPLOSIVE POWER

Leon FontaineDevoted

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]… Hebrews 4:12 (AMPC) ‍Have you ever thought, “I know there’s power in God’s Word. But how do I get it to work in my life?”   That question reminds me of a show I watched on explosives. Years ago, a Swedish chemist created an explosive liquid called nitroglycerin. It was incredibly volatile. If you accidentally shook it a little too much, all they would find of you is a set of teeth somewhere! Then he discovered that using another substance to absorb the nitroglycerin allowed him to create a safe, mouldable paste he called dynamite. Later, he figured out that if he attached a blasting cap to …

PASSION AND PURPOSE

Leon FontaineDevoted

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].  Ephesians 2:10 (AMP)  You can’t maintain passion without purpose. And what is your purpose? God’s Word says we are made to follow Christ, seek His Kingdom and build His church. (See Matthew 4:19, 6:33 and 16:18.)   Even the most mundane tasks you do can be full of purpose. You may be changing diapers or balancing budgets—but in everything you do, do it unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24)!   This …

SIN KILLS PASSION

Leon FontaineDevoted

And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24:12 (NKJV)  Another passion-killer is sin. Sin breeds indifference, and if left unchecked, indifference will slowly eat away at your passion for the things of God.   Now, it’s important to recognize that your relationship with God is based on Jesus and His ability to stay sin-free. You can’t earn your own righteousness—it’s a gift you accept. As a believer, you and God are on good terms. He’s not cursing you or keeping a record against you.   However, to sin means to miss the mark for God’s best. When you make decisions that aren’t His best, you won’t experience the best. It’s not because God is withholding from you. It’s simply because you chose something less …

DISAPPOINTMENT KILLS PASSION

Leon FontaineDevoted

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. Hebrews 10:36 (NLT)  One of the greatest passion-killers is disappointment.    We all face letdowns in life—whether it’s losing a job or relationship, having our dreams delayed or seeing plans fall through. What matters is how we handle it. If we don’t deal with disappointment quickly, it turns into disillusionment, indifference and finally, cynicism. A cynical person will find it impossible to dream or hang on to a sense of passion.    I remember when Sally and I were house-shopping as newlyweds. We found a beautiful home in a location we liked and began praying and believing that it would be ours. In the end, however, …
