Calm, Cool And Connected

When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down. Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him.  Ephesians 4:26-27 (AMPC).

God has given you the ability to remain in control of your reactions at all times.

There will be times when you feel frustrated or angry but this does not mean you need to act on the feelings. Just because you feel like you are coming undone, does not mean you have to. This does not mean you need to become an emotionless robot. God created feelings and they add beauty to life. Even anger can be useful; God Himself has anger against sin, injustice, rebellion and pettiness. The key is to experience emotions without becoming a slave to them.

Ephesians 4:26-27 shows how acting out our anger in a way that negatively impacts others actually gives Satan a foothold in our lives. We begin to develop a stronghold of anger that infects every area of our lives.

We can interrupt this process simply by paying more attention to our thoughts. You see, your thoughts actually control your emotions. If you focus on what is making you angry, you will feel more anger. But if you replace those thoughts with something else, the anger subsides.

Today, if you feel yourself coming undone, take a minute to connect with God. Philippians 4:6-7 says “Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand” (NLT).
