For many are called, but few are chosen. Matthew 22:14 (NKJV)
When Jesus said that many are called but few are chosen, what did He mean?
Some think it means that God predestined only some people to go to heaven. This explanation just doesn’t make sense because we can find several verses saying that God wants everyone to be saved (See 2 Peter 3:9, Matthew 18:14, 1 Timothy 2:4). The truth is He’s calling every person on the planet to a relationship with Himself, and everyone who chooses to follow Jesus becomes one of His chosen ones—members of His family.
Others think today’s verse means that many are called to specific positions in the body of Christ, but few are actually chosen to be in ministry. This thinking doesn’t line up with
the Word either. We all received the Great
Commission—Jesus’ call to spread the news about Him and make disciples in every nation.
So…what is God calling us to? He’s calling us to grow in Him, but we need to choose to do so.
In fact, Spirit of God is calling you right now. He’s calling you (as a Christian) to spread the news about Christ, and He’s also calling you to rise up to a new place in Him. He’s calling you to go to a new season in your life.
You aren’t called to just be satisfied to know that you’re going to heaven when you die. You’re called to step out in faith and do what it takes to continually grow in God. You’re called to experience more of the incredible life Jesus made available to you!
Be one of the ones who chooses to live a full life in Christ. Live life to the fullest by continually growing in God!
