Believe What You Say

Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!” and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him. Mark 11:23 (AMPC)

Early on in our marriage, Sally and I agreed to help to keep each other accountable in using our words to declare God’s promises instead of doubt and unbelief. At first, when one of us would forget and say something like, “I’m confused,” or, “I’m getting sick,” the other would say, “I rebuke that in Jesus’ name!”

The trouble was, this approach didn’t come across very well, so we decided that rather than rebuking each other, we’d try something different. When one of us would slip up, the other would say, “I agree with you in Jesus’ name.” That sounded even worse, but it really helped us both to become more aware of the words we were speaking over our lives.

You see, we must begin to speak and believe the words that we say. Proverbs 18:21 (ESV) says that we eat the fruit of our spoken words, both positive and negative, which encourages us to begin declaring what God’s Word says. After all, if you don’t declare God’s promises and take authority over your life, who will?

As a believer, if you want to receive all that God has for you, you need to apply His beautiful, powerful, life-changing Word to your life. Study it, meditate on it and begin to speak it out loud over every situation. As you do, you’ll find incredible change taking place in yourself and your walk with God!
