For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. Galatians 6:15 (NKJV)
To walk in the authority you have in Christ, you need to realize that you are a new creation!
Believers often look at their struggles the wrong way. If they have trouble being patient, they think, “I’m always so impatient! I need to change.” While that might sound right, it’s actually the wrong way to think.
Focusing on the fact that you’re not patient just brings more doubt. You become very problem-and sin-conscious. As a result, the changes you make are only external. Because these changes are initiated by negative pressure, you don’t access God’s power. You begin to look down on yourself because you are trying to become something you believe you can’t become.
You need to believe that you are who God says you are—His son or daughter, a King’s kid, more than a conqueror, having the mind of Christ, Holy Spirit empowered and able to lay hands on people to see them recover. Then you can begin to walk in every promise He has for you.
If you are struggling to win over bad habits, stop looking at it as trying to become what you’re not. Instead, focus on who you are in Christ. Yes, you will still need to practice patience, but the power to change begins with knowing you’re capable of overcoming.
Find out what God’s Word says. Believe that, then step out in faith to be what the Word says you can be. As our verse today says, what matters most is that you’re a new creation in Christ. That’s what empowers you to live the incredible life God has for you.
