Are You Scared To Admit You’re Afraid?

Leon FontaineDevoted

Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3:25 (NKJV)

What are you allowing fear to rob from you?

I was trying to help an intensely fearful person deal with their anxiety the other day. The problem was they refused to admit they were scared. Their denial stopped me from being able to walk them through some ways to deal with their anxiety. After all, how can you deal with something you don’t admit you have?

Mark 11:23 teaches us to speak to mountains, and they’ll obey us. It doesn’t say, “Ignore the mountain and pretend it’s not there,” Because denial doesn’t remove the problems in our lives. Faith takes the opposite approach. Faith recognizes the problem, then commands it to go because it has no right to be there.

For example, whenever fear shows up in my life, I take the Word of God and declare, Fear, you go in the name of Jesus! Then I proclaim God’s promises daily such as, I haven’t got a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind! (See 2 Timothy 1:7.) Anytime you sense fear pushing at you, begin declaring the opposite from God’s Word.

Proverbs 4:23 warns us to guard our hearts with all diligence. Why? Because our hearts are the control centres of our lives. Our hearts hold all of our deepest beliefs, and those beliefs govern everything in our lives. Protect your heart by filling it with God’s Word and positively praying His Word as though the answer is already yours.

When you do feel afraid, recognize it. Don’t deny fear—instead deny its right to be in your life!
