We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 2 Corinthians 10:4 (NLT)
Do you allow your theories to override truth? A theory is a self-made doctrine, used to explain a situation or justify a course of action.
Perhaps you grew up with a family member that regularly struggled with anxiety and couldn’t seem to experience freedom from it. Over time, you developed the theory that God doesn’t care about our struggles. But God’s Word says He cares deeply about us and He is intimately invested in our lives (See 1 Peter 5:7, Luke 12:6-7, Matthew 6:25-34.)
God’s Word provides weapons to pull down and destroy theories that set themselves up against the knowledge of Him. Why? Because those theories can turn into strongholds—assumptions in our thinking that we come to believe as truth. You see, what we believe affects everything. Our beliefs affect our attitudes, actions and emotions. They influence how we live and interact with God and the people around us.
For example, I’ve encountered men that hold certain misbeliefs about women. Pulling a verse out of context about women submitting, they take it to mean they are better and smarter than women. Yet that stance will hurt their sons and daughters, their wives, and their ability to work with half the human race! We’ve seen this attitude in men who struggle with females in leadership roles. Until they destroy that theory, it will continue to negatively affect every relationship they have with the opposite sex.
Getting into God’s Word helps tear up our misguided theories and mental strongholds. Standing on His truths are crucial to living life victoriously—the way God planned for us to live!
