Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
Hebrews 13:2
We’ve been on a series confronting a few misconceptions about angels. Today let’s cover a few more.
First of all, I want to make it clear that nowhere in the Bible does it teach us to pray to angels or talk to invisible angels. As believers, we pray to our Father God, in Jesus’ name.
And while angels appear to very few people (one has never appeared to me), it would seem that when they do, they can take different forms. Sometimes when angels appeared in the Bible, the sight was so awe-inspiring that people fell to the ground in fear. Other times, the fact that they were speaking to angels wasn’t obvious at all.
For example, Joshua didn’t seem to know at first that the man he met on the battlefield was an angel, until he asked him whose side he was on and he replied that he was the “commander of the army of the Lord” (Joshua 5:14).
It seems that angels can sometimes appear to be human beings. In fact, Hebrews 13:2 says to be hospitable to strangers because you never know…you might be speaking with an angel!
So, just because you’ve never seen an angel doesn’t mean you haven’t been helped by one. Our eyes are not always opened to the angels around us, but according to Hebrews 1:14, they have been commissioned to minister to every believer. Angels are around you, ready to respond to the promises of God that you speak over your life. Isn’t that incredible?
