Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.
Romans 12:11 (AMPC)
Whatever you do, you can decide to do it with enthusiasm.
Whether you’re single or married, enthusiasm is attractive. The fact is, people enjoy being around enthusiastic people.
Even everyday tasks can be done with enthusiasm. I’m not saying you should fake excitement for chores that bore you. But realize that enthusiasm isn’t an emotion; it’s an attitude you can choose to bring to everything you do.
It reminds me of a story in Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer. Tom wanted to go to the swimming hole with all his friends, but Aunt Polly wanted him to whitewash the fence—and the fence seemed to go on forever. At first he painted dejectedly, dreading the fact that his friends would soon be passing by on their way to the swimming hole. He knew they would rub in the fact that he had to work while they got to play.
Then Tom had an idea. When the first friend stopped by, instead of saying he had to work, he talked about how much he liked to paint the fence. Pretty soon Tom had that boy begging to paint the fence for him, and when that friend was too tired to continue, there was a string of other boys waiting for their turn!
When you do things with enthusiasm, you become attractive, and what you’re doing also becomes attractive. So whether you’re at work or you’re teaching your kids to clean the house, laugh, have a good time, and bring a little more enthusiasm to everything you do.
