Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace. 2 Timothy 1:9 (NKJV)
Is our worth measured by our performance?
When asked that question, most of us would say no. However, many still fall into the trap of trying to earn worth through achievement. We think that there are a set of do’s and don’ts to follow to be worthy of God’s love, but His love for us is not based on our performance.
Let’s say you have two children in school. One has a 75 and the other has a 95 average. Would you love the one with the higher average more? No. Would you place a lower value on the child with the lower average? Of course not!
God doesn’t value us more or less, depending upon how we
behave.
Small children who grow up in loving homes know this instinctively. A toddler might dunk your phone in the toilet and then snuggle up to you right after. He might slip out of your grip one minute, lunging toward a busy street, then ask you for a candy the next minute. It doesn’t seem to enter his mind that his actions might cause you to love him less. And he would be right. Although you may not be pleased with his actions (especially when they are a danger to him), your love for him hasn’t changed. You still adore and value that little guy.
God is the same. He is THE perfect Father, and His love for you never changes. He wants to protect you from the consequences of sin because it brings destruction, but even when He’s unhappy with your actions, He still loves you just as much.
