A Simple Life Of Purpose

Leon FontaineDevoted

Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. Matthew 20:26-28 (NKJV)

Are you living a purpose-filled life? Often we assume that we have to be rich or famous to really make a difference. It’s not true.

A teenage boy was hired to collect shopping carts at a local department store and was surprised to have to undergo over two hours of training. After his training, he could passionately communicate why his role was vitally important to the families who shopped at the store. He also understood how doing his job well could influence sales. By giving him reasons why his job was important, the company instilled in him a strong sense of purpose. They gave him the right perspective.

No matter what your situation, you can also feel a great sense of purpose—simply by choosing a different perspective.

Our definition and God’s definition of great are often quite different. In Matthew 20, Jesus said whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant (verse 26). All that is required for greatness is the right perspective. In all that you do, have a heart to serve.

You can serve in your home, your workplace and everywhere you go. It’s so simple. Just go out of your way to look for opportunities to make a difference in someone’s day and aim to bring them closer to Jesus. As you do, you will gain a great sense of purpose no matter what your position.
