But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18 (ESV)
Do you ever wake up feeling low? I get those days too, and when I do, I put on a good teaching podcast or CD and let it feed me truths from God’s Word. By the end of the message, I feel refreshed and changed.
Many think the only way to get to know God is by reading the Bible. However, a relationship with God involves more than just knowing facts by reading text; it’s about understanding the revelations of God’s concepts, His thinking, and His ways.
While the Scriptures are always the basis for teaching, God has also given us gifted pastors, teachers and apostles in our world for a reason. God created us to be able to take in His Word in various ways, because we all learn differently!
When people tell me they fall asleep while reading the Bible or they just don’t get it, I suggest several options. Find a great teaching series online and listen to God’s Word being taught (Matthew 7:24, Romans 10:17). Or grab a solid teaching book written by someone that can break down God’s Word into chewable bites, so you can grasp how faith works and learn about all God promises you.
Begin to immerse yourself in His Word through whichever means best helps you grow. Try reading, listening, watching videos, attending conferences or visiting a life-giving church on Sunday.
Find ways to study God’s Word in a way that confronts your heart misbeliefs with His truths. Seek out the Gospel being taught in a way that causes you to rise up and live fully, knowing who you are in Christ. God wants you to know Him, regardless of how you learn!
