Do you know that you can sense God speaking to you in the centre of your being?
I’ve heard entirely too many extreme stories about being led by God. Don’t get me wrong; I believe that sometimes God leads people through dreams, visions and other supernatural experiences. The problem is that these stories can make God’s leading seem far out of reach for the average person.
When you hear stories like these, you might be tempted to disqualify yourself. You may think, I’ve never heard from God like that. I guess he doesn’t work through me.
The reality is that Holy Spirit wants to work with every believer to powerfully impact others. God wants to work through contemporary people in the real world—people just like you.
Most of the time, I sense Holy Spirit’s leading as an impression. I might get a feeling that I should strike up a conversation with someone, for example. Rarely do I get an idea ahead of time as to why I should talk to that person. I just sense that I should. Other times, his nudges are to protect me. He might give me a sense that someone is unsafe, for example.
As you realize how normal and natural His leading can be, it’s so much easier to open yourself up to it. You don’t have to be nervous about being used by God. He won’t require you to be strange or weird as you do it.
You can act on God’s leading in a way that is always respectful to people and that fits with your surroundings.
