And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (AMP)
Many of us are addicted to something.
We may not be addicted to alcohol or drugs, but we might be addicted to worrying or prideful thinking. Or maybe we have low self-worth because we don’t realize who we are in Christ. These addictive thought patterns limit us. It’s time to deal with them, and God’s Word is the key.
While it’s great to use willpower and behaviour modification, realize that they only result in external (and often temporary) change. For permanent change, you need to change from the inside out by studying God’s Word.
You can start to look at Jesus as though you’re looking in a mirror. In other words, you can begin to see yourself taking on his characteristics and having what he has—causing you to begin to act and think more like him from one degree of glory to another.
This kind of change isn’t something you can muster up all on your own. You need to put in the effort to study God’s Word, but then this change comes “from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.” You see, it’s not about striving and struggling to change. The Bible talks about entering into God’s rest. It’s about getting God’s Word into your mind and heart so it can bring the changes you need.
Holy Spirit has transformed you into a new creation. Now let God’s Word lead and instruct you to rise above negative thinking and focus on God’s values and priorities.
