And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:32 (NKJV)
Did you know that you can be like Jesus? “As He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17, NKJV), and not just when it comes to our right
standing with God or our ability to see the miraculous. We are like Jesus when it comes to being empowered to have victory over temptation. If you’re struggling to break a habit, you need this realization!
If you rely on willpower alone, that’s not enough. You may be able to stop yourself from doing something, but if you’re screaming for it on the inside, that’s not freedom. But because Christ is in you, you can get to the point where it becomes easier. You can start to feel happiness, satisfaction and joy in the midst of difficult decisions. You can experience freedom!
As humans, we can have addictive personalities. This tendency was designed for good. You can be addicted to spending time with God, for example, but you can also be addicted to alcohol, drugs, negative thinking, worrying or pride.
Your power to walk free from these things is tied to your study of God’s Word. Meditating on God’s Word begins to change your beliefs. As a result, some of your desires begin to change. Eventually you get to the point where you can walk away from what tempts you and say,
“I feel good! I don’t need that anymore!” So if you’re trying to stay away from something, monitor your
behaviour and use willpower to stay away from whatever it is. But at the same time, never forget that Holy Spirit is in you, empowering you to study God’s Word and walk toward true freedom, one step at a time.
