Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
Today’s verse says that we become a new creation the moment we give our lives to Christ, and all things become new. But do you ever look at your life and wonder how this can be true?
Maybe you still struggle with the same things you did before, so you think, “Nothing has changed! I still lose my temper, and have the same bad habits and low self-worth!”
The truth is you are a three-part being: spirit, mind and body. Today’s verse is not talking about your body or your mind. When you gave your life to Christ, your body didn’t physically change. Your mind didn’t change either. Your habits and preferences, who you love and what you like to do—those things likely stayed the same as well. But something certainly did change! God’s Spirit came to live inside your spirit and your standing and relationship with him changed.
When you gave your life to Christ, you became a new creation, even though your habits, feelings and beliefs didn’t change overnight. You became a child of God!
You still have habits and beliefs to change. We all do. This is nothing to feel condemned about, and it’s not a reflection of the condition of your spirit. People who are struggling with more seemingly obvious challenges aren’t any less saved than the Christians who look like they have it all together.
For you, all things have become new, and over the next few days we’re going to keep talking about how you can begin to walk that newness out in your everyday life.
