The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18 (NIV)
Yesterday we talked about the fact that when you get into God’s Word, it begins to change you from one degree of glory to another. I love how it happens in degrees.
It’s like how a married couple’s love for each other can grow.
I thought I loved Sally when I married her, and I did. I was head- over-heels in love! But degree after degree, year after year, our love has grown. We’ve shared having kids, we’ve gone through some things and we’ve built a life together. We know each other better than I dreamed possible. I am so much more in love now than I was then!
It’s the same way for you and God. From one degree to another, you’re growing and changing with him. It’s not an instantaneous thing. God doesn’t expect you to clean up all your misbeliefs and bad habits the minute you give your life to Christ.
God’s Word is going to work on your heart, which holds misbeliefs. You may have been raised in poverty thinking, sickness thinking or limitation thinking. Even if your parents were amazing, you’re still going to be working on stuff all the time!
Growth happens from one degree of glory to another. It’s a journey. If you aren’t where you wish you were, don’t beat yourself up. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that God can’t use you where you are.
Just keep studying God’s Word and trust Holy Spirit to be the perfect helper and teacher for all you need. Look to him because he’s changing you from one degree of glory to another.
