See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.
Matthew 18:10 (NIV)
When our kids were young, my wife Sally and I learned to get into agreement when we prayed.
Starting during pregnancy, we would pray that each child would love God, serve him, walk in love and do great things for God. We spoke over their future—over who they were going to marry and what they were going to do—claiming God’s promises and agreeing with who he said they would be.
Now, this doesn’t mean that our kids have never had struggles. Of course they have; they live on this imperfect planet! But we firmly believe that God’s Word does not return void; it accomplishes what it’s been sent to do (See Isaiah 55:11).
It’s an awesome privilege to be able to pray over someone’s life and then see those promises unfold over time. Even if you’re not a parent, I’m sure you have children in your life you can pray for. Why not claim Matthew 18:10 and Psalm 34:7 for them today?
Psalm 34:7 says that the angel of the Lord “surrounds everyone who walks with Him and is always there to protect and rescue us” (VOICE). So you can pray something like this over the kids you’re thinking of:
“Wow! Father, your Word says that (names of kids) are being watched over by angels who are always in your company in heaven. Thank you for caring about them so much and for your protection in their lives. Your angels are always there to protect them and are ever ready to rescue them every day!”
