For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
Mark 11:23 (NKJV)
Prayer is proclamation as well as communication.
Sometimes when I pray, I’m having a dialogue with God. I might say, “Hi, Father. I don’t know what to do in this situation. What do you think?” You can open up a two way conversation with God and he’ll put impressions in your heart and mind.
Then there’s another kind of prayer that Jesus talked about in Mark 11:23. Let’s call this type of prayer “speaking to mountains.”
Speaking to mountains is about telling things to go away if they don’t belong in your life. It’s about knowing what God has promised you, noticing where things don’t line up, believing you can have what God says and then commanding your situation to get in line with his promises.
When Jesus told the storm to be still, he was speaking to a mountain. This storm was getting in the way of Jesus doing his Father’s business, so he commanded it to go…and it did.
You are made in the likeness and image of God. You can do what Jesus did.
God wants you to live out the dreams He’s placed in you. In his Word, he promises healing, health, great friendships, purpose, a life of significance and so much more. So if there’s something standing in the way of you having the life God says you can have, speak to that mountain. Command it to go and claim Isaiah 54:17: “Father, thank you that no weapon formed against me will prosper!”
