See the Sacred in Everyday Life

Leon FontaineDevoted

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
John 1:14 (NIV)

Do you notice God in your everyday life? Do you see the supernatural within the ordinary?

Some think that only pastors and missionaries experience the miraculous and the supernatural, but it’s not true. Your life is just as supernatural as an evangelist’s. God is at work just as much within your family relationships and in your business and career decisions. The evidence of His hand on things may not always be spectacular, but that doesn’t make it less supernatural.

On that note, church isn’t the only place God works. A great movie with a message can have an incredible impact for God. Even if that movie never mentions the name of God, it can be powerful if it presents Christ as the answer or it somehow motivates people to have an interest in Him or in the Bible.

Why limit God in how He works? If a music artist mentions that they believe in Jesus, Christians criticize them because they don’t talk directly about God in their lyrics or because they didn’t say point blank, “Jesus is the only way.” Meanwhile, if they have a huge following and two per cent of the listeners are inspired to move one step closer to God because of what they said, that’s great! Let’s make sure we don’t judge the way God works!

The sacred is in everyday life. You can find the supernatural everywhere you go if you’re looking. Even Jesus’ birth, which was the most supernatural thing to ever happen on this planet, was completely ordinary! God became flesh and lived among us. Clearly God is willing to work with the ordinary. Let’s be open to all the different ways God wants to work in our lives.
