Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5:1–2 (NIV)
One thing that was very apparent in my dad was his love for Jesus. Just mentioning the name Jesus would cause his face to light up, and he said Jesus’ name like it was a term of endearment. He loved God with all his heart.
His work as a pastor was a labour of love. He pastored for decades and never let go of his passion and joy for the ministry—loving and sharing Jesus with people everywhere he went.
How did he do it? He developed his love walk his entire life!
If you’ve given your life to Jesus, heaven is your home. But if you want to live the abundant life Jesus died to make available to you, you need to develop your love walk here on earth.
What is this love walk? It’s a progressive discovery of God’s love for you. It’s also a development of your love for Him. And it’s learning to love what God loves: others.
It’s easy to see when people are developing in this love walk. They love God’s Word; they love serving others. They don’t mind volunteering somewhere to be a blessing to others. There’s something different about them—the love they have on the inside!
Today I want to encourage you to develop your love walk. Over the next few days, we’ll continue to discuss how you can do that, but for now, think about what your life could be like if you continued to develop your love for God. Get excited, because this love walk is going to change your life!
